Saint Petersburg will host the International Festival of Military Brass Bands “Pipes of peace”
Tomorrow, at the Palace Square in St. Petersburg, more than 300 musicians representing 12 military brass bands from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and China will perform at opening scenes of the second International Festival “Pipes of peace”.
The culmination of this grand event will be a gala concert of combined military orchestra, which will begin at 16:00. Musicians will perform famous works by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Reingold Gliere and many other legendary composers. The concert will be finished with the most famous work in Russia performed by brass bands – march “Farewell of Slavianka”.
For the first time in the festival’s history, military musicians have to win the hearts of the public with performances in the squares and parks of the city. Recitals of military brass bands with free programmes will be in the evening on June 30.
In summer, St. Petersburg traditionally becomes a centre of military brass music. The XVII International festival of military brass bands was held here in 2013, and every Sunday musicians of the Western Military District will appear in squares and parks of the historic part of the city throughout the whole season. This year’s participation in the International Festival “Pipes of peace” involves 8 teams of the St. Petersburg garrison.
