The First International Conference on Humanitarian Mine Clearing started near Moscow
On the basis of the International Mine Action Centre of the Russian Federation Armed Forces, the First International Conference on improving approaches to humanitarian mine clearing and countering improvised explosive devices has opened in the settlement of Nakhabino near Moscow. It is attended by delegations from more than 10 countries, such as India, Egypt, Pakistan and others. The conference was also attended by representatives of several non-governmental organizations – the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining, International Committee of the Red Cross, Geneva Office of the United Nations for Disarmament Affairs, and others.
According to the Chief of the Engineer Troops Lieutenant-General Yuri Stavitsky, this event is a good opportunity for experts from the countries concerned to assess their teamwork priorities.
During the conference it is planned to develop a unified concept of using forces in matters of humanitarian mine clearing, considering issues of improving applied technical means, as well as the procedure for providing services on training foreign experts in the newly formed International Mine Action Centre of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
