Session of the Council of CIS Defence Ministers headed by Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation General of the Army Sergei Shoigu was held in Moscow
Today, the 69th session of the Council of CIS Defence Ministers headed by Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation General of the Army Sergei Shoigu was held in Moscow.
Defence Ministry representatives from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kirgizia, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, and representatives of the CIS Executive Committee and Council Secretariat participated in the session.
Before the session, the Russian Defence Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu presented the Minister of Defence of Kazakhstan Imangali Tasmagambetov a valuable military relic – historic copy of the Banner of Victory.
Sergei Shoigu stressed that the copy of the Banner was presented to Imangali Tasmagambetov in the year of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. According to the Russian Defence Minister, the Victory Banner is a symbol of courage, honour, heroism, national unity and selfless service for the Motherland.
General of the Army Sergei Shoigu expressed his gratitude to the session participants for offered sympathies concerning Russian crashed airliner in Egypt, downed Su-24M and killed military servicemen in Syria.
The head of the Russian defence department stated that the meeting was held in conditions of the international terrorism expansion and the latest developments had showed that it was a real threat for the CIS members as well.
Sergei Shoigu stressed that it was necessary for the CIS member to improve military interaction. He also added that the form of the Council allows to perform tasks successfully on the basis of partnership.
General of the Army Sergei Shoigu expressed confidence that the meeting of the CIS Defence Ministers would be fruitful for further development of cooperation between the states and armies.
In the course of the session, which took place in the National Center for State Defence Control, the participants have discussed upon more than 20 different issues concerning interaction of the CIS Defence Ministries.
The Defence Ministers analyzed implementation process of the Concept of CIS military cooperation in 2015 and resumed the results of interaction in 2011-2015. As a result of discussion, joint activities of defence departments and bodies of the Council for development were assessed as successful.
In accordance to long-time prospects of military cooperation development, heads of Defence Ministries approved the project of Aerospace Defence Concept of the CIS members. The Aerospace Defence Concept reflects a system of views concerning effort coordination and interaction between air defence forces and troops aimed to provide protection of the aerospace.
Main directions on development of the Joint Communication System were defined in accordance to common organizational and technical views on equipping the national armed forces with modern communication means.
Council of the Defence Ministers paid special attention to development of the Joint Air Defence System of the CIS. Plan of cooperation between troops (forces) of the Joint Air Defence System of the CIS, Plan of joint activities for 2016, and Regulation on Coordination Committee for Air Defence as well as allocation of funds for development of the Joint System for 2017 were approved in the course of the Council session.
The session participants agreed on an Activity Plan-2016 of the Council and approved the Tournament Plan. Tournaments are held in the course of the XII Spartakiada Games among friendly armies devoted to the 25th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
At the meeting with representatives of the mass media, summing up the results of this session of CIS Council of Defence Ministers, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu mentioned that thanks to organized cooperation among heads of military departments within the multilateral cooperation, significant contribution had been made to strengthening security of the CIS states as well as building and improvement of the Armed Forces.
Head of the Russian military department expressed his hope that the CIS Council of Defence Ministers was forming a firm basis for long-lasting partnerships in the military sphere, which had been developed and strengthened from year to year.
General of the Army Sergei Shoigu named a number of specific activities showing the growth of the practical part of such cooperation.
Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation has paid particular attention to the joint work on the Plan of troops interaction of the Joint Air Defence System and the Concept of the Aerospace Defence as well as organizational, technical and legal support of development of the Agreement on Joint (unified) communications system of the CIS Armed Forces.
All these documents and materials were considered and approved.
According to the head of the Russian military department, traditionally much attention is paid to military education and development of cooperation in this area.
General of the Army Sergei Shoigu emphasized that the decisions taken during the session are aimed at improvement of multilateral system of military cooperation within the CIS.
Within the CIS Council of Defence Ministers, the head of the Russian military department held a number of bilateral meetings with Defence Ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kirgizia and Tajikistan.
They were held in a constructive and meaningful manner. In the course of joint work, the parties have discussed the issues of cooperation in military and technical spheres as well as approved plans for future interaction in 2016.
