Chiefs of Russian and French General Staffs had a meeting in Moscow
Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces General of the Army Valery Gerasimov had a meeting with his French colleague Army General Pierre de Villiers in Moscow.
Valery Gerasimov stressed that the Russian party was ready to cooperate with the French Defence Ministry in uncompromising fighting against international terrorism at the same level as the French colleagues were.
According to the Chief of the Russian General Staff, after terrorist attacks in Paris the President of the Russian Federation ordered the Russian Armed Forces to cooperate with the French servicemen as with allies because these countries had been in such relations in fighting against fascism. Therefore, they should fight against terrorist in the same manner.
Valery Gerasimov offered the French colleague to share opinions concerning the situation in Syria.
Valery Gerasimov said that he would inform Pierre de Villiers about results of the operation carried out by the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria and share the views concerning prospects of the further developments in this country.
“A little time has passed after your first visit to Moscow but the global and regional security situation has changed significantly. International terrorism, which had seemed to be a potential threat three years ago, has turned into real one and hit a lot of countries,” noted Chief of the Russian General Staff.
Valery Gerasimov stressed that terrorist attacks in Paris have been assessed in Russia negatively and the Russian party expressed condolences to French people.
Head of Russian General Staff said that it was necessary to consolidate efforts in eliminating financial and material support sources of terrorists.
“Today, France is making significant efforts in forming counter-terrorist coalition in Syria and Iraq. Developments in Middle East and Northern Africa showed that no a single country was able to repel threats of international terrorists,” resumed Chief of the Russian General Staff.
In his turn, Army General Pierre de Villiers noted that coordination between the countries and sharing information is one more evidence of long and strong relations between Russia and France.
According to Pierre de Villiers, cooperation between Russia and France is to be continued and extended.
Он отметил, что у него есть «богатый опыт взаимодействия с российской армией в Косово в 1998 году».
He also noted that he had a wide experience in cooperating with Russian Army in Kosovo in 1998.
“It is to be said that you have good soldiers,” resumed Pierre de Villiers.
