Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation General of the Army Sergei Shoigu held Board session
Today, the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation General of the Army Sergei Shoigu has held a Board session in the National Centre for State Defence Control.
Leadership of the Russian Armed Forces, representatives of state power bodies, public and other organizations took part in the session.
The Board members discussed issues of implementation of the plan of the Eastern military district for 2016-2020, development of list of military infrastructure buildings to be constructed in 2017, and summed up results of complex combat readiness inspection of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
In his opening speech, the head of the military department noted that support of national interests of the Russian Federation in the Asia-Pacific region had been one of the top priority directions of activity of the Russian Armed Forces.
Therefore, in 2016, the Eastern military district conducted a lot of work to optimize organizational structure, build up combat staff of troops, introduce new and modernized armament and military hardware in military units and formations as well as to intensify operational and combat training. As a result, combat power of the district has increased by more than 10 per cent, said General of the Army Sergei Shoigu.
According to the Defence Minister, balanced development of arms and services of the Armed Forces as well as pace of rearmament of the Army and Fleet directly depends on readiness of modern supporting infrastructure.
The Minister of Defence reminded that in accordance to the order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, complex combat readiness inspection of the Aerospace Forces had been held from January 31 till February 10. About 46,000 servicemen and 1,800 items of armament and military hardware were involved in the inspection.
The inspection confirmed capability of the Russian Aerospace Forces to perform assigned tasks and secure the country from modern and prospective means of aerospace attack.
