Russian and Greek ships to participate in 190th Anniversary of the Battle of Navarino
The LLD Azov, the frigate Navarinon arrived in Pilos port to participate in events marking the 190th Anniversary of the Battle of Navarino.
The names of Russian and Greek ships are directly linked with a historic event of 1827 which was a watershed in the Greek War of Independence.
The LLD Azov is named after the Azov battleship, crew of which had distinguished itself in battle almost 200 years ago, and the Greek frigate was renamed into the Navarinon when it joined service in the Greek Navy.
The Russian and Greek seamen will take part in events. The both delegations will visit the two ships.
The main events marking the 190th Anniversary of the Battle of Navarino are to take place in Pilos from October 19 to 20.
