Chief of Russian General Staff: it is important to consolidate Russia-Japan military cooperation on security in Asian-Pacific Rim
The Russian-Japan strong military cooperation plays a key role in security and stability in the Asian-Pacific Rim. It was announced by General of the Army Valery Gerasimov as he commented on the talks in Tokyo with his counterpart - Chief of Staff, Joint Staff Admiral Katsutoshi Kawano.
He also pointed out the Russia-Japan cooperation was developing. “The countries are ready to enhance cooperation between defence departments on the basis of high-level agreements reached over the last year”, stressed the Chief of Russian General Staff.
At the beginning of the visit, the Chief of Russian General Staff laid a wreath at the Memorial to Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force fallen sailors.
The Monument was erected in 1980 marking the 30th Anniversary of JMSDF upon the order of Japanese Prime Minister Suzuki.
