Voronezh says farewell to Roman Filipov, Hero of Russia fallen in Syria
The funeral ceremony was attended by Nikolai Pankov, Deputy Defence Minister, and Colone General Sergei Surovikin, Commander-in-Chief Aerospace Forces.
On February 3, while flying over the Idlib de-escalation zone, the Russian Su-25 was shot down by a missile launched from a MANPAD. The aircraft was operated by Major Roman Filipov. The pilot ejected. Major Roman Filipov surrounded by enemies engaged in an unequal fight. Being badly wounded, Russian officer exploded a hand grenade.
For his courage and heroism, Major Roman Filipov was posthumously awarded the title of the Hero of the Russian Federation.
Today, President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, expressed his deepest condolences to Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, in course of a telephone conversation.
