Russian Minister of Defence General of the Army Sergei Shoigu holds teleconference with leadership of Armed Forces
Today, the National Centre for State Defence Control has hosted another teleconference with leadership of the Armed Forces chaired by General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, the head of the Russian defence department.
Before addressing the agenda, Sergei Shoigu touched on the annual presidential address to the Federal Assembly.
As Sergei Shoigu emphasized, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief highly appreciated development of the Armed Forces and combat potential of this country in general.
Turning to the agenda of the teleconference, Sergei Shoigu moved to discuss issues concerning development of Pion-NKS and Bars-M spacecraft.
Moreover, the attendees talked over supplies and recovery works of armaments and military hardware for the Navy pursuant to the State Defence Order 2017.
The Russian Navy received the Tula strategic nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) and Dmitrov diesel submarine in February and March after overhaul.
The intelligence-gathering ship Ivan Khurs and logistics vessel Elbrus are completing tests now.
During the teleconference, particular attention was paid to issues concerning enhancement of the combat strength of the Russian Airborne Troops.
This year, the Airborne Troops will receive more than 30 modernized artillery systems, reconnaissance and fire control vehicles, the T-72B3 tanks, BMD-4M, BTR-RD, and D-30 howitzers.
There are tank, UAV and EW companies established in the Airborne Troops. Reconnaissance companies have been reconstituted into battalions. Besides, a separate airborne assault and recovery battalions were organized.
“These measures have increased the Airborne Troops’ combat potential by 20%”, emphasized the Minister of Defence.
He also added that it was planned to complete establishment of three tank battalions, EW and UAV units this year.
Sergei Shoigu stressed that the Airborne Troops would prove their efficiency during the Vostok 2018 strategic command post exercise, where the troops will practise defence of national interests in the Russian Far East.
