Briefing by Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria (April 14, 2018)
The Russian Сentre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides continues working on peaceful settlement of the conflict and stabilizing humanitarian situation in the Syrian Arab Republic.
Despite the ceasefire regime being established throughout the country, the Russian-Turkish-Iranian Coordination Centre has registered several cases of ceasefire violation in the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia and Daraa over the last 24 hours.
Yesterday, militants resumed mortar attacks targeting Damascus and its suburbs. Illegal armed groups carried out a mortar attack from the Muhayam al-Yarmuk capital district targeting the al-Batiha cross-roads in southern part of Damascus. Four civilians are reported to be wounded; there are small children among them.
Humanitarian operation in the Eastern Ghouta carries on despite missile strikes against Damascus carried out by the international coalition.
Yesterday, the remaining 3,976 militants with families, who had decided to voluntary leave the city of Douma, got on 107 buses to depart. Operation on withdrawing militants from the city has been completed. In total, 21,145 militants with families have left Douma.
In total since the beginning of the humanitarian operation in the Eastern Ghouta, 67,680 militants with their families have left the area with the crucial support of the Russian Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides.
The Russian Centre for Reconciliation is above all focused on stabilizing the humanitarian situation, providing medical assistance to the people in need and meeting the priority needs of citizens.
Construction equipment that the Douma authorities received recently from the Russian Centre for Reconciliation is now engaged in rehabilitation of infrastructure in the city. Technical services are working on recovering water and power supply systems.
The Russian military police jointly with the Syrian police are working on establishing law enforcement, preventing crimes against civilian population and organizing registration of civilians.
Humanitarian situation is being stabilized in the other regions of Syrian as well.
The Russian Centre for Reconciliation has provided a humanitarian assistance to residents of Balas, Aleppo province. People received fresh-baked bread, 445 food sets. The total weight of cargo amounted to 2.9 tons.
Citizens of Salhiyah, Deir ez-Zor province, received drinking water.
The Russian military medics provided medical aid to 114 Syrians including 33 children.
The reconstruction of the destroyed social infrastructure and the establishment of peaceful life in the Syrian provinces enable people to return back to their former homes.
Over the past day, 210 people have returned to Homs province and 450 people – to the province of Deir ez-Zor (on the eastern shore of the Euphrates).
