Russian Minister of Defence holds teleconference with leadership of Armed Forces
Today, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu has chaired another teleconference in the National Centre for State Defence Control of the Russian Federation.
At the beginning, it was proposed to discuss development of the Tu-160 and Tu-95MS strategic bombers.
Sergei Shoigu stressed that these aircraft are a vital component of the Russian nuclear triad, so it is of paramount importance to modernize and repair them in time and in high-quality.
It is planned to overhaul eight airplanes of this type by the end of the year to extend lifecycle of the strategic bombers and increase their combat potential.
Another issue on the agenda concerned creation and maintaining of a group of orbital spacecraft used for military purposes.
At present, the Progress Missile Space Centre is developing four mapping and Earth's remote probing spacecraft.
The attendees discussed in detail preparations for the International Army Games which will be held from July 28 to August 11 in seven countries.
Sergei Shoigu recalled that this year, Iran and Armenia organizes contests along with Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, China and Kazakhstan.
"It is pleasant that this time the Games will gather 181 teams from 32 countries, which is almost a third more than last year. For the first time, Algeria, Vietnam, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sudan and the Philippines will show their skills at the competition," Sergei Shoigu said.
The Main Naval Parade is a centrepiece of the upcoming month.
It will be held on July 29 on the Day of the Navy in St. Petersburg and Kronstadt.
As the Minister of Defence informed, 41 warships, 38 aircraft and about 4,000 servicemen of all fleets and the Caspian Flotilla will be involved.
The historical part of the parade will be opened by artillery boats of the Caspian Flotilla with battle banners of the famous Marines who heroically defended and liberated Leningrad, Sevastopol and Novorossiysk during the Great Patriotic War.
In addition, modern and new weapons and military hardware will be demonstrated.
There are 18 ships and boats of modern projects, including a Karakurt-type small missile ship and the intelligence ship Ivan Khurs which were built this year.
There will be airshow involving upgraded Il-38N aircraft with the new Novella search and sighting system, Su-30SM, latest generation Su-33 with modified precision bombing system, Ka-27M helicopters, modernized with Kema radio acoustic system.
Naval parades will be held in other cities as well.
The Minister of Defence demanded that all officials «should be scrupulous about the preparation of the event, to do everything for making it at the highest level and a point of pride for this country».
The leadership of the military department, representatives of the defence industry, leaders of the Kamchatka, Kemerovo and Murmansk regions took part in the teleconference.
