Russian Defence Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu holds teleconference with Armed Forces Command
Today Moscow hosted another teleconference of Defence Ministry chaired by the General of the Army Sergei Shoigu.
To start the teleconference, the Defence Minister introduced a his new deputy – Colonel General Andrey Kartapolov to head the Main Directorate for Political-Military Affairs of the Russian Armed Forces.
Sergei Shoigu also drew attention of the attendees to a number of remarkable events held recently, in particular, the Navy Day celebrations and the Main Naval Parade in St. Petersburg and Kronstadt.
As he stressed, parades were held in all fleets, in the Caspian Flotilla and in Syrian port of Tartous.
This year, parade events involved over 13,500 seamen, 195 vessels of various classes, 130 auxiliary vessels and more than 70 aircraft of naval aviation.
"Our military once again showed their professional skills and might of the Russian Navy", Sergei Shoigu stressed.
On July 28, Russia marked another milestone – opening of the IV International Army Games 2018.
The Russian Defence Minister drew the attention to the fact that this year, 28 contests are attended by 189 teams representing 32 countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and South Africa.
It is the first time as they are held at 23 training grounds in seven countries. "The past contests saw spirit of sportsmanship and improved skills of all the participants. It is also important that the Games give opportunity to test equipment and hardware in extreme conditions" Sergei Shoigu said adding that the competitions involved over 30 groups of representatives of defence industry complex to study the operation of combat hardware and armaments.
Defense Minister highlighted the fact that this year once again Syrian servicemen participate in competitions.
"Not long ago they were fighting against international terrorism risking their lives, and today they successfully compete in three contests: Tank Biathlon, Masters of Artillery Fire, and Depth", Sergei Shoigu said.
Eleven contests of the Games have already closed. Russian military are in the lead in team rating.
The head of the military department highlighted another key event of the month – the IV Army International Military and Technical Forum which is to take place on August 21-26 at the Patriot Congress and Exhibition Centre, Alabino training ground, Kubinka airfield, and other military districts across this country and at the Northern Fleet.
The Russian Defence Minister drew the attention to the fact that this year over 1,500 enterprises and organisations are to attend the Forum. They will showcase over 26,000 military and dual-use exhibits which is 25% more than last year.
A number of states presenting their national expositions has also increased. Now, there are eight of them – Armenia, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, China, Pakistan, Slovakia and Turkey.
Moreover, we launch a pilot project this year – National Security Week aimed to enhance efficiency of cooperation among state agencies in this sphere.
For this purpose, there are two special halls deployed in the Patriot Park to house a unique exposition on this topic. They have all the necessary conditions for a constructive dialogue of specialists.
Besides, there are 151 events of business programme which will involve prominent public figures, military experts, principal designers and leading scientists.
It is estimated that over a million of people will visit the Forum.
Moreover, Sergei Shoigu spoke about preparation for the new training year.
He also noted that training programs being reviewed according to combat experience of the Armed Forces.
At the same time, cadets and trainees undergo practical study during scheduled events of combat training in the troops.
Universities are upgrading their educational infrastructure.
According to Defence Minister, at present they are provided with modern and advanced armaments by 62%. This figure will have reached 70% by 2020.
Thematic agenda was centered round the Angara Space Rocket Complex established by the Khrunichev Space Centre.
Sergei Shoigu drew the attention that maiden flight tests of the Angara Space Rocket Complex took place at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in 2014. Pursuant to the active contract, the Centre makes three heavy rocket vehicles and two of light class.
Sergei Shoigu moved to discuss ways to fulfill this important objective of the government.
