According to Head of Russian Military Department, the Russian Federation and the United States need a more active dialogue on nuclear deterrence and resolution of long-standing conflicts.
The Russian Defence Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu held talks with US National Security Advisor John Bolton.
“Today there are a great number of problems in the world that we could solve by joint efforts. This concerns both the strategic issues of nuclear deterrence and, of course, the issues of settling major long-standing conflicts,” said Shoigu during the meeting.
He noted that the Russian and American servicemen maintain contacts in the most difficult areas.
Sergei Shoigu noted that the Russian and American military are supporting contacts in the most difficult areas, such as Syria, which is the only positive example of our effective cooperation.
"We need a more active dialogue for all the rest. I think that today we have a chance to discuss these issues," - the Defence Minister noted.
In turn, John Bolton also expressed hope for expanding the dialogue on Syria and other issues with the Russian military.
“We agree with you that the negotiations on deconflictation in Syria were very successful and very useful, and we hope that we can expand this dialogue and discuss other issues,” said John Bolton.
In addition, he said that US Secretary of Defence James Mattis hopes for the possibility of further dialogue with the Head of the Russian Military Department, Sergei Shoigu.
“After the meeting of our presidents in Helsinki, we received very important tasks - to expand and deepen our dialogue. Therefore, I am very pleased to be here in Moscow in order to fulfill this very important assignment,” - said John Bolton.
