Russian and Turkish defence ministries to develop cooperation for peace in Idlib

“Despite the provocations, the importance and the need to continue cooperation between the intelligence services and the armed forces of the two countries to establish peace and maintain stability in Idlib was underlined,” said a joint statement of the Russian and Turkish defence ministries in Ankara.

The statement also stressed the need to take decisive measures to ensure security in the Idlib demilitarized zone.

"The importance of cooperation in the fight against terrorism in the interests of ensuring the political unity and territorial integrity of Syria is re-emphasized," the statement said.

Also during the talks in Ankara, assessments of the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic were given in accordance with the Astana and Sochi agreements, the work of experts of the two countries met in Moscow January 31 - February 2, 2019, and interaction aimed at organizing a meeting of the leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran in Sochi on February 14.

During the talks, the commitment to the Astana agreements was confirmed.

The delegations of the two military departments at the talks in Ankara were headed by Russian Defence Ministers, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu and Turkey Defence Minister Hulusi Akar.
