VIII Moscow Conference on International Security kicks off today
The VIII Moscow Conference on International Security organised by the Russian Defence Ministry takes place in the capital of the Russian Federation on April 24-25, 2019.
The forum focuses on difficulties in global and regional stability, recovering of Syria and Iraq, as well as various security issues in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Moreover, it is planned to discuss missile defence issues, deployment of weapons in space, international peacekeeping activity and new approaches to military cooperation.
More than 1,000 guests have arrived to attend the forum. Among them there are defence ministers, chiefs of general staff, delegations from defence ministries and experts from 111 states as well as leaders of such international organisations as CIS, CSTO, SCO, UN, OSCE and ICRC.
Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Nikolai Patrushev will bring greetings from President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to guests and participants of the forum at the Conference's opening session. Defence Minister of the Russian Federation General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov, Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin are expected to make reports in order to outline positions of the Russian Federation on key international security issues.
United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix will deliver a welcome address at the conference on behalf of the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, the Russian Defence Minister, is going to have a number of bilateral meetings with his foreign counterparts.
The Russian Defence Ministry will launch live broadcasting of the Conference on its official website.
The Moscow Conference on International Security has been organised annually by the Russian Defence Ministry since 2012. The Forum has been steadily consolidating its role of a respected platform for discussing the most topical international security issues. It traditionally attracts great interest both in Russia and abroad.
