The Russian Defence Ministry held a video conference of Senior officials of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and dialogue partners

Today, the Main Directorate for international military cooperation of the Russian Defence Ministry held a video conference of Senior officials of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and dialogue partners (SO "ADMM plus").

The event precedes the meeting of Defence Ministers of the countries "ADMM plus", which is scheduled for October this year in Vietnam.

During the video link, the participants of the SDL meeting exchanged views on regional and international security issues in the context of COVID-19, forecasts of the situation in this area after the pandemic,as well as the experience of the Armed Forces of the "ADMM plus" countries in countering infection.

The Russian side presented the report "Participation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in measures to combat the spread of COV1D-19 coronavirus infection".

In addition, the plans of expert working groups (EWG) "ADMM plus" for the next three - year cycle 2020-2023 were approved in seven areas: military medicine, humanitarian assistance and emergency response, counter-terrorism, maritime security, peacekeeping, cybersecurity, and humanitarian demining. As part of this format, the Russian side will co-chair the EWG on counter-terrorism with Myanmar in the upcoming cycle.

The importance of the issues discussed was noted, and the mood for continuing contacts was emphasized.

Decision to launch the mechanism of meetings of Defence Ministers of ASEAN member countries and Analog partners ("ADMM plus") it was adopted in April 2010 at the initiative of the Vietnamese chairmanship of ASEAN.

"ADMM plus" dialogue partners include Russia, the United States, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.

In the period between meetings at the level of Defence Ministers, practical work is carried out at the level of senior officials and experts of defense departments, as well as within the framework of seven specialized working groups.

The "ADMM plus" mechanism creates favorable conditions for conducting an open and constructive dialogue between ASEAN and its key partners on defense and security issues, contributes to the deepening of trust and mutual understanding, and the establishment of practical interaction between the military departments of the participating countries.
