The Minister of Defence of Russia has closed the VI International Military Games
Russian Defence Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu declared the VI Army international games closed at a ceremony in the "Patriot" park near Moscow, presenting the Russian team with the cup of the absolute winner of the Games-2020 in the team classification.
"I came to this stage not only to present the main prize. Although this is a grandiose and most important event for any army that has won a victory in peaceful conditions. Today we are completing the VI international Army games. The Games with winners but without losers. Games where new friends and new masters appeared," the head of the military department said.
The Russian Defence Minister also thanked the representatives of the armies of 32 countries that participated in 30 competitions of the Games. "This means that there are an additional 30 best in their profession, in their business — 30 best crews, 30 best commanders, gunners, shooters, 30 best crews of aircraft and ships," Sergei Shoigu stressed.
The head of the Russian military department expressed gratitude to the countries that hosted the games this year — Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus and Uzbekistan.
"I am grateful to you, dear colleagues, for organizing the competition so brilliantly," the Defence Minister said.
The General of the Army also noted the work of judges, logistics services and medics, who did everything to make the competition as safe as possible in the conditions of the coronavirus pandemic.
"I hope there will be more of us next year. There will be more countries that host these Games, more participants, and more people who really want to cooperate and be friends. And those who, I hope, will never take up arms against someone who met and became friends at these Games, " the head of the Russian military department said.
In addition, Sergei Shoigu added that the Army international games next year will receive a number of innovations that will help improve combat training.
"I note that the increasing level of training of all participants confirms the need for such a large-scale military sports event. ...I can immediately say that a number of innovations are planned to improve the training of personnel, the use of weapons and military equipment," the Defence Minister said.
Sergei Shoigu stressed that, despite the opinion of skeptics, the current Games were more than successful.
"The army teams of 32 countries have demonstrated their ability to solve problems in any situation, including the introduction of restrictive measures related to the pandemic," the head of the military department said.
The Defence Minister reminded that the Army international games are, in fact, the only competitions in the world that have been held in the context of a pandemic.
Sergey Shoigu also noted the increased competitiveness between the teams in almost all contests that were held on the territory of five countries.
"Every year, the popularity of games is growing not only among viewers, but also among professionals. Compared to 2015, the number of teams has tripled, " the head of the military department said.
He also said that the teams of the new participating countries-Afghanistan, Equatorial Guinea, Namibia, Qatar, Palestine and the Republic of Guinea — demonstrated confident skills at the competition. According to Sergei Shoigu, in the near future will begin preparing for the next Army games.
"All our meetings, alas, are coming to an end. The sixth Army international games are declared closed, " the Defence Minister concluded.
Also at the closing ceremony of the Games-2020 awards were presented to the winners and prize-winners of the Tank biathlon. The cup of the competition winners was presented to Russian tankers by the Chief of the General staff of the Armed Forces-first Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Valery Gerasimov.
The closing ceremony of the Games ended with a grand drone show and a festive salute that painted the evening sky near Moscow in the colors of the National flag of the Russian Federation.
