Russian Defenсe Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu on the Day of the Russian Press awarded journalists covering the activities of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
"Today is Press Day. This is your holiday, this is the holiday of the country, a holiday that has long been deserved by journalists. The Armed Forces, the leadership of the Ministry of Defenсe, all our officers from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka have great respect for your work, for your work aimed at maintaining morale and educating our soldiers, officers, and educational institutions in the Armed Forces — where a good, kind word is needed. And the most important thing is honest and truthful information, " the head of the military department said.
Sergei Shoigu also thanked journalists working outside the country.
"And here, of course, your work is extremely important for us. Work that helps Russian society, and not only, to see what is actually being done in the farthest corners of our planet, where we are fulfilling the tasks set by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of our country. Recently, this is Nagorno-Karabakh. Of course, before that there was Syria and many other points and corners, " the Defence Minister said.
The head of the military department wished the journalists to continue their work "with the same activity, with the same desire and, most importantly, with the same talent."
"I cannot but say that we consider you one of the combat and advanced units that stands shoulder to shoulder with us on many fronts, whether it is the fronts of everyday life, whether it is our navy, aviation, combat work, educational work, educational institutions, education of our youth," Sergei Shoigu stressed.
The Minister of Defence presented the Order of Friendship to Alexey Ivliev, correspondent of the main editorial office of information and information-analytical programs of the NTV Information Directorate.
Medals of the order "For merits before Fatherland" II degree were received by the deputy head of the TASS military information editorial office Yekaterina Eliseeva, TV presenter Dmitry Kulikov, editor-in-chief of the "Arsenal of the Fatherland" magazine Viktor Murakhovsky and deputy editor of the Army department of "Gazeta.ru" Mikhail Khodarenok.
The badge "Honored Journalist of the Russian Federation" was awarded to military columnist of "Komsomolskaya Pravda" Viktor Barants.
The medals "For Strengthening Military Cooperation" were awarded to the producers of the TV channels "Russia-1" and "Russia-24" Alesya Alekseeva, Dmitry Naida, Maria Novikova and the general producer of the TV channel "Zvezda" Boris Yanovsky. Presidential Adviser on information broadcasting of the TV channel "Zvezda" Alexey Kharkiv received the medal "In Memory of Heroes of the Fatherland".
It is worth noting that last year the media published more than 140 thousand materials about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, including almost 59 thousand TV stories. The journalists worked on 10 thousand events of the Russian Defence Ministry, including press tours organized by the military department, on the largest exercises and in Syria.
