International Mine Action Centre unit transfers a humanitarian demining site to Laos
Servicemen of International Main Action Centre of the Russian Armed Forces have started transferring the territory of humanitarian demining to representatives of the national Committee for the control of unexploded ammunition of the Lao people's Democratic Republic.
Within three days, representatives of the committee will check the quality of cleaning of three areas with a total area of 104,095.5 square meters, on which 836 explosive objects were discovered by the military personnel of the mine clearance department of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation.
At the end of the quality check of humanitarian demining of the territory, the committee representatives will issue a certificate confirming the safety of the cleared area, which will subsequently be transferred to local authorities for the purpose of land use.
The Russian engineers began demining in Laos in October 2019. Military engineers cleared the area near the city of Phon Sawan of Sienghuang province from American cluster bombs and anti-personnel mines.
A specific feature of mine clearance in this territory is a high concentration of unexploded ordnance and their components, not related to explosive objects. Mine Clearance personnel have to respond to each signal from the detectors and carry out the digging out, identify and determine the degree of danger of each item.
