Philippines Defence Ministry delegation visits Guards missile cruiser Varyag, Pacific Fleet
The Minister of National Defence of the Republic of the Philippines, Delphin Lorenzana, and the Chief of the Philippine General Staff, Lieutenant General Benjamin Madrigal, visited the Varyag Guards missile cruiser during the stay of the Pacific Fleet detachment in Manila.
They were acquainted with the armament, combat capabilities and the main characteristics of the flagship of the Pacific Fleet. Also during the inspection of the cruiser, Philippine military inspected the exhibits of the ship’s museum.
As part of the business visit of the Russian detachment to Manila, separate protocol meetings of the detachment commander were held with the commander of the Philippine Navy, Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad, the fleet commander Rear Admiral Danilo Rodelas and the Coast Guard commander Elson Hermohino.
For the first time, Russian sailors visited the headquarters of the fleet and the location of the Philippine Navy Special Operations Forces Group, where they wrote a new page in the history of bilateral military cooperation between the two countries, conducting joint training on overcoming an obstacle course and fire training.
As part of the program of the stay of the Russian ships in Manila, for the Philippine soldiers, sightseeing tours of Varyag and Admiral Panteleyev were organized.
As part of the bilateral cultural program, a group of artists from the song and dance ensemble of the Pacific Fleet performed in the House of the Officers of the Philippines Navy.
The final event of the Russian ships call was the Russian-Philippine training in maneuvering and communication with the involvement of the Apolinario Mabini patrol ship of the Philippine Navy.
