Barnaul missile formation (the Red Banner Orders of Kutuzov and Alexander Nevsky missile division)
According to the USSR Defence Minister’s Directive the 46th missile brigade was formed in May 1960 on the basis of the administration and units of the 65th Red Banner Orders of Kutuzov and Alexander Nevsky heavy mortar brigade of the 6th breakthrough artillery division.
In April 1961 the USSR Defence Minister's Directive transformed the 46th missile brigade into the missile division.
The Orders were passed to it for continuity. The 15th of December is the annual date of the formation’s day. The headquarters was initially located in the city of Prokhladny of the Kabardino-Balkarian ASSR, from 1961 — in the city of Ordzhonikidze, from 1967 — in the village of Oktyabr?skoye of the Prigorodny district of the North Ossetian ASSR, since 1982 — in the urban-type settlement of Borovikha (the Altai Territory).
In different years there were missiles R-12 (from 1961 to 1981), R-14 (from 1963 to 1982) and has been RT-2PM (since 1983) in service with the missile division.
