1st regiment of Yars mobile ground missile systems will take on combat duty in Altai Territory
The solemn ceremony was held to mark taking on combat duty the first regiment of the Barnaul formation in Altai Krai, as well as another regiment of the Irkutsk missile formation, equipped with Yars mobile ground missile systems.
Currently, the Strategic Missile Forces have about 200 mobile launchers in service. To replace Topol-M missile systems, the Yars intercontinental ballistic missile systems entered the service.
The RS-24 Yars missile system has already become the basis of the Strategic Missile Forces. Industrial enterprises keep the pace of delivery of the Yars missile, launched from a silo or mobile launcher, to the troops. To date, the troops have received more than 150 launchers of the new missile system and started using it.
In 2019, in the framework of the State Armaments Program, about 100 new basic weapons and military hardware of the Strategic Missile Forces were purchased. This made it possible to complete the rearmament of three missile regiments with the RS-24 Yars intercontinental ballistic missile and to begin the rearmament of another missile regiment with the Avangard missile system. Due to this, the share of modern missile systems in the Strategic Missile Forces will reach 76% by the end of the year.
As Commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, Colonel General Sergei Karakaev has noted, in 2024 the share of modern missile systems is expected to reach 100%, that is, there won't be any obsolete Soviet-made missile system in the Strategic Missile Forces.
