Russian Defence Minister Gen. of the Army Sergey Shoygu met with his Greek counterpart Panos Kammenos

Today, the Russian Defence Minister Gen. of the Army Sergey Shoygu met with his Greek counterpart Panos Kammenos, who arrived in Russia to participate in the IV Moscow International Security Conference.

"I am happy to welcome you to Moscow. Thank you for having responded to our invitation to take part in the Moscow Conference. We have something to discuss. Recently, a very troubled situation there is both in Europe and other regions of the world," said General of the Army Sergey Shoygu, opening the meeting.

"The history of our ancestors links Russia and Greece. We are grateful for the memory, which is supported by the Greek Government in relation to the feat of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War," said the Russian Defence Minister, stressing that "it is not a fake support, but the relations between our peoples composed historically."

"As for the military and military-technical cooperation, it also has the deep roots. I think that we can continue this glorious history of our cooperation, both at sea and on land," said the head of the Russian military department.

In turn, the Greek Defence Minister noted that "our history is based not only on history, but also on the common faith." "In

all complexities of its history the Greek people has been supported by the Russian people," said Panos Kammenos.

The head of the Greek military department assured that the new Greek government will not only continue this glorious tradition, but also deepen it in all fields.

"Now new prospects are opened up for bilateral cooperation. We regret to say about the measures taken by the EU with regard to Russia," said the Greek Minister of Defence, and he noted that "though our country is small, we are taking all the efforts for lifting these restrictions against Russia."

"Our defence cooperation is continuing for many years. It is based on a solid basis. I hope that we can continue and deepen it in response to the threats and challenges emerging," said Panos Kammenos.

"Development of jihadism in the Middle East and North Africa, the phenomenon of terrorism necessitate this cooperation. And such a position that is defended by us within the NATO, too," said the head of the military department of Greece.
