Russia relies on cooperation with Pakistan in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking from Afghanistan

Today, the Russian Defense Minister Gen. of the Army Sergey Shoygu met with the military department of Pakistan Khawaja Muhammad Asif, who arrived in Russia to the IV Moscow International Security Conference.

Opening the talks, the head of the Russian military department said that Russia hopes for cooperation with Pakistan in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking from Afghanistan.

"Development of constructive relations between our countries is an important factor in ensuring international security and regional stability," stressed General of the Army Sergey Shoygu.

Russian Defense Minister expressed his gratitude to his Pakistani counterpart for the fact that he "once again participates in the Moscow international Security Conference," and praised the prospects of cooperation between Russia and Pakistan under their military departments.

"Signing Russian-Pakistani military cooperation agreement in November 2014 in Islamabad became an important outcome of this work," said General of the Army Sergey Shoygu and expressed confidence that "the implementation of the document will give an additional impetus to all aspects of our mutual activities."

In turn, the Minister of Defence of Pakistan expressed hope that the upcoming talks "will contribute to developing our relations." "Pakistan attaches great importance to these mutual relations. Your historic visit to Pakistan has helped us to establish a framework for cooperation", said Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

He described as "very important breakthrough" the agreement signed during the recent visit of Army General Sergey Shoygu in Pakistan. "I'm sure it’ll be further transformed in a very strong relationship," said the head of the Pakistani military department.
