Russian Deputy Minister of Defence Colonel General Alexander Fomin discusses cooperation with Permanent Secretary of Cypriot Ministry of Defence
The Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation Colonel General Alexander Fomin negotiated with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Cyprus Andreas Luca during the IX Moscow Conference on international Security. Alexander Fomin has said that Russia attaches much importance to the consolidation of the relations with Cyprus, finds this country a historic ally and partner.
'Against all odds and despite difficulty of the relations that in recent years turned out to appear between the Western countries and Russia through no fault of ours, we find Nicosia a reliable partner that is interested in developing the mutually beneficial cooperation. He has expressed his confidence that the relationship of trust between the two nations will facilitate confrontation of the majority of threats and solution of regional problems.
'We attach much importance to continue developing and consolidating the bilateral contacts between our defence institutions. And, obviously, Cyprus and Greece hold a special place among our friends. This is due to common cultural traditions, spiritual proximity of our peoples', said Deputy Minister of Defence of Russia.
According to Andreas Luca, the country he represents agrees the Russian approaches in fighting against terrorism, in assessing the common threats. 'We agree that these efforts should be implemented under the aegis of the UN and with mutual respect', said the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Cyprus.
