Vostok 2022 strategic command post exercise


Vostok 2022 strategic command post exercise guided by the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will be hosted from September 1 to 7, 2022, and include trainings dedicated to offensive and defensive action at seven training grounds of the Eastern Military Districts: Burduny, Goryachiye Klyuchi, Knyaze-Volkonsky, Lagunnoye, Sergeyevsky, Telemba, Uspenovsky, as well as in the water and coastal areas of the Okhotsk Sea and the Sea of Japan.

The objectives of strategic command post exercise are to improve the skills of commanders and headquarters in commanding inter-service and coalition troop (force) groups when repelling aggression in the eastern direction and in the far eastern maritime zone, to increase the compatibility and level of interaction in addressing joint tasks of coalition troop groups in preserving peace, protecting interests and ensuring military security in the eastern region.

Strategic command post exercise will also check the level of  preparedness of the military command bodies in organising the planning of operations in coastal areas and the comprehensive support and management of groups of troops (forces) during the conduct of hostilities.

Within the coalition groupings of troops, joint actions will be  practised by the operational command bodies, military contingents and  observers from the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and other partner states, including Republic of Azerbaijan, People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of India, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, People's Democratic Republic of China, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Mongolia, Republic of Nicaragua, Syrian Arab Republic, Republic of Tajikistan.

Russian Armed Forces will be represented at the exercise by the military  command and control units of the Eastern Military District, part of the  Airborne Troops, long-range and military transport aviation forces.

The tactical episodes of the exercise are based on various variants of  joint practical actions by military contingents of the Armed Forces of  the Russian Federation and partner States, the main one being planned at  Sergeyevskyi training ground.

In addition, in the waters of the Sea of Japan, joint practical actions to defend maritime communications and areas of maritime economic activity and to assist land troops in the coastal area will be practised by Pacific Fleet and the naval forces of the People's Republic of  China.

The troops (forces) involved in the exercise will act in accordance with the provisions of the 1996 Agreement on Confidence-Building in the Military Field in the Border Area between the Russian Federation, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan and the People's Republic of China.

A total of more than 50,000 servicemen, more than 5,000 weapons and units military equipment, including 140 aircraft, 60 warships, boats and support vessels, will be involved in the Vostok 2022 strategic command post exercise.
