Amphibious landing exercise took place at the Baltic Fleet
Today a scheduled amphibious landing exercise of the Baltic Fleet combined forces took place at the Khmelevka range in the Kaliningrad Region.
Over 10 surface ships, motor boats and auxiliary vessels, as well as aircraft and helicopters of the naval aviation, over 40 pieces of combat equipment of the coastal troops and about 500 servicemen took part in it.
During the first stage of the exercise, Su-24 tactical bombers of the naval aviation have carried out an air strike engaging ground targets using rockets and bombs.
The landing operation was held from the major landing ship Alexander Shabalin, the small-sized landing hovercraft Yevgeny Kacheshkov as well as the newest landing motor boats Michman Lermontov and Lieutenant Rimsky-Korsakov.
Over 20 BTR-82A APC landed under cover of the ship strike grouping. To provide support for the landing troops an engineer breaching group was brought on Ka-27PL helicopter to make the passage through the coastal minefields.
The landing operation became another stage of combat training.
