Briefing by Centre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria (March 20, 2018)

The Russian Сentre for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides continues working on reconciliation of the opposing sides and stabilizing humanitarian situation in the Syrian Arab Republic.

In general, situation in Syria stabilizes, people return back to peaceful life. However, the Russian-Turkish-Iranian Coordination Centre has registered several cases of ceasefire violation in the provinces of Hama, Damascus, Latakia and Daraa.

The humanitarian operation is underway in the Eastern Ghouta. Following temporary fighting lull, terrorists have resumed mortar attacks against residential quarters of Damascus and its suburbs.

At 6:15 p.m. terrorists delivered a missile strike from the settlement of Ayn-Terma on the Kashkui market, Jaraman district, Damascus province. As a result, 37 people were killed, 35 were wounded.

The humanitarian operation is underway in the Eastern Ghouta.

The 22nd humanitarian pause was put into force under the control of the Russian Centre for Reconciliation.

During the humanitarian pause, 552 people have left the Eastern Ghouta via the humanitarian corridor near Muhayam al-Wafedin. Since February 28, in total 2,825 people have left the Eastern Ghouta via the abovementioned corridor.

Refugee inflow via the second humanitarian corridor that lies through the settlements of Hamouriyah, Saqba and Hazeh, has decreased. Most people have already left militant-held areas. Besides, the corridor suffered intensive shelling attacks by terrorists. Only 128 people manage to pass the corridor.

In total since the beginning of the humanitarian operation, 80,414 people have been evacuated from the Eastern Ghouta with the help of the Russian Centre for Reconciliation.

The Russian Centre for Reconciliation is above all focused on stabilizing the humanitarian situation, providing medical assistance to the people in need and meeting the priority needs of citizens.

Over the past 24 hours, the Russian Centre for Reconciliation ensure safe passage of the UN-SARC-ICRC humanitarian convoy to the settlement of Tell-Shihab, Daraa province. People received 123 tons f humanitarian cargo.

On March 19, the Russian Centre for Reconciliation has provided humanitarian aid to people that left the Eastern Ghouta. At the Adra, Edduer, Hirdjilla refugee camps and checkpoints people received 3,950 food sets, 2,800 MREs, 2 tons of bottled water and 7,500 portions of hot meals.

More 14,000 people that left the enclave have been provided with food supplies over the last 24 hours.

Citizens of Marrat, Deir ez-Zor province, received drinking water.

The Russian military medics provided medical aid to 105 Syrians including 32 children.

The reconstruction of the destroyed social infrastructure and the establishment of peaceful life in the Syrian provinces enable people to return back to their former homes.

Over the past day, 15 people to Homs province, and 612 people – to the province of Deir ez-Zor (on the eastern shore of the Euphrates).
