Arctic grouping of Northern Fleet land amphibious assault in Chukotka
Today, as part of the Vostok 2018 maneuvers, marine units and the Arctic motorized rifle brigade of the Northern Fleet conducted a tactical exercise in landing amphibious assault on the unprepared coast of the Chukchi sea near cape Vankarem.
The amphibious operation of the forces of the Northern Fleet in Chukotka was held for the first time in modern history. The exercise was held in several stages. The actions of the crews of the ships and landing forces were coordinated and pre-worked.
At the first stage, with the fire support of Vice Admiral Kulakov large anti-submarine ship the Marines fought for landing and provided the approach of Kondopoga and Alexander Obrakovsky large landing ships with the main forces.
The landing of armored vehicles on the coast was carried out at the second stage of the exercise.
Within the Vostok 2018 maneuvers the forces of the Northern Fleet are practicing in the Arctic zone in the Chukotka region, both on the continental coast and in the seas of the Arctic and Pacific oceans.
To participate in the Vostok 2018 maneuvers ships and vessels of the Northern Fleet made a transfer from the main point of basing on the Kola Peninsula to the area of maneuvers through the Northern Sea Route.
August 8, move of the detachment has begun. During this time, ships and vessels passed more than 4,000 nautical miles and completed the tasks of several tactical exercises in the Arctic.
The Vostok 2018 maneuvers have kicked off in the territory of the Far East and Pacific Ocean water zones on September 11-17 in accordance with the Russian Armed Forces under the leadership of the General of the Army Sergei Shoigu.
Military command and control units, troops of the Eastern and Central military districts, forces of the Northern Fleet, Airborne Troops, long-range and military transport aviation of Aerospace Forces will be involved in the maneuvers. In total, some 300,000 servicemen will take part in maneuvers, more than 1,000 aircraft, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles, up to 36,000 tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers and other vehicles, up to 80 ships and support vessels will be involved.
