Russian Defence Minister notes an increase in tension on borders of СIS states

“Given the negative trends in global and regional security, the military-political situation on the borders of the Commonwealth remains extremely tense. Under these conditions, security can only be achieved through joint efforts,“ - stressed General of the Army Sergei Shoigu at a meeting of the heads of the military departments of the CIS member states in Anapa.

At the same time he stressed that security can only be achieved through joint efforts.

According to him, the format of the defence ministers of the CIS makes it possible to expand the range of interaction and maintain a constructive dialogue.

“Today’s meeting is the next step on this path,” noted Sergei Shoigu.

“The Council of Ministers of Defence consistently and systematically develops multilateral military cooperation in the Commonwealth format. This is taking place in an atmosphere of acute geopolitical instability both on a regional and a global scale,” the Head of the Russian Military Department emphasized.

Sergei Shoigu highlighted the fact that the United States continues to dismantle strategic agreements to prevent a nuclear missile threat, increasing military and economic pressure throughout the world.

He also noted the unprecedented military activity of the North Atlantic Alliance.

”NATO conducts global information pressure, unprecedentedly increases military activity, threatens to use force,” the Russian Defence Minister said.

Another threat he called the migration of international terrorism, destabilizing the situation in various regions of the world.

“New hotbeds of tension and instability are emerging in different parts of the world. The shock troops of international terrorism, with the support of shadow sponsors, move from the region to the region and pose a constant threat to the security of states,” the Russian Defenсe Minister noted.

He informed his colleagues that since the last meeting of the CIS Council of Ministers, there have been changes in the the Council staff: Major-General Bakhodir Kurbanov was appointed Minister of Defence of Uzbekistan.

Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are represented at the meeting by the heads of the military departments, Kyrgyzstan - the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic.
