Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Vladimir Putin takes part in expanded meeting of Defence Ministry Board Session

Today, an expanded meeting of Defence Ministry Board Session took place at the National Centre for State Defence Control of the Russian Federation, during which the results of the activities of the Armed Forces in 2019 were summed up and tasks for the next period were determined.

“A general analysis of the state of the Armed Forces shows their high combat readiness. All branches and service arms of troops are capable of practicing their mission as intended, and guaranteeing the peace and security of Russia," he noted opening the Session.

The President emphasized that this is extremely important, given the international situation and the risks present here. Indeed, tension does not subside in the Middle East, in Afghanistan, on the Korean Peninsula, and the military infrastructure of NATO is expanding near the borders of Russia.

“The decisive place is, of course, occupied by the tasks of ensuring the defence capability of Russia,” said Vladimir Putin. “No matter how events unfold, reliable, guaranteed protection of our Motherland from any potential military threats should be unchanged.”

The President thanked the entire personnel of the Russian Armed Forces for the clear fulfillment of the tasks set and for their loyalty to the country.

Compared to last year, near our borders, the intensity of air reconnaissance increased by 33%, and marine by 24%.

Pentagon tests conducted in August and December for medium-range missiles confirm the fact that the United States developed missile systems prohibited by the INF Treaty during the period of its operation.

The next logocal step will be the deployment of such missiles in Europe and the East.

Also, there is no certainty of the United States about the future fate of the START Treaty and the Open Skies Treaty.

Without getting involved in the arms race, but taking into account the threats, the Ministry of Defence and the defence industry comlex continued to implement plans approved by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief to re-equip the Armed Forces and improve their quality.
