Military climbers, within the framework of the Elbrus Ring 2020 competition, made a parallel crossing over a mountain river in the Baksan Gorge
Servicemen of the high-mountain units of the Russian Armed Forces and the Rosgvardiya crossed the mountain river in the Baksan Gorge in the Elbrus region. Groups of climbers went to the designated area, where they made preparations for crossing the mountain river.
In the course of performing the special task "Parallel crossing", the servicemen, resting their feet on the double (lower) rope and holding their hands on the double upper rope, crossed to the opposite bank with side steps.
Self-insurance was organized during the crossing. When a serviceman was disrupted, the command, using a shuttle, returned him to the original bank, after which the serviceman tried again. The width of the river was 6 m, the speed of the current was 10 m/s.
In just 6 days, mountain units will overcome about 100 km of mountain serpentine with a total elevation difference of about 3.5 km and a total climb (loss) of altitude in the ascent (descent) sections of up to 12 km.
At the end of the march, the servicemen will, as part of the unit, make an ascent and a high-speed ascent to the top of Mount Elbrus.
The organizer of the competition is the department of physical training and sports of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. This competition has been held since 2015, the sixth competition in a row.
Teams from all military districts, the Northern fleet, the airborne troops, the Far Eastern Higher Combined Arms Command School, as well as the National guard of the Russian Federation take part in the competition.
The ceremonial closing of the competition will take place on August 4, 2020 as part of the All-Russian stage of Elbrus Ring competition.
