Russian Defence Minister meets in Moscow with the Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces
Russia is ready to maintain a dynamic and multifaceted nature of military cooperation with Iran. This was announced today by the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu at a meeting with the Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Bagheri.
“Our relations are developing dynamically and are multifaceted, a vivid confirmation of this is our great joint fight against international terrorism. We are ready to continue to make every effort to maintain the current pace of development of our relations,” Sergei Shoigu said.
The minister noted that in Syria, Russia and Iran are actively countering international terrorism. “We can continue to do this work in different regions, taking into account the fact that the situation is not getting easier,” Sergei Shoigu said. He mentioned the threats that emanate from Afghanistan today, including drug trafficking and the emergence of Islamic State on the territory of neighboring states.
The minister also noted that this year the defence departments of the Russian Federation and Iran have a rich program of joint events, and proposed to discuss the most significant issues of Russian-Iranian cooperation in the military field.
