Statement by the Russian Ministry of Defence

Since October 30, this year, a destroyer with guided missile weapons "Porter" of the US Navy has been in the Black Sea, on November 3 the tanker "John Lenthall" of the US Navy arrived and on November 4 the staff ship "Mount Whitney" of the US Navy.

On November 6, in order to improve the methods of using strategic bomber aircraft over the Black Sea, flights of two strategic bombers of the US Air Force B-1B were carried out at a distance of about 100 km from the state border of the Russian Federation.

US Navy ships arrive to participate in US Joint Forces Command Europe's multinational exercise in the Black Sea region.

The Russian Defence Ministry notes that this is an unscheduled action by US forces, who are setting up a multinational grouping of military forces in the immediate vicinity of the Russian border.

Such actions are a destabilising factor in the Black Sea region, one of the aims of which is the military development of Ukrainian territory.

Given that in addition to the US Navy, the exercise will involve tactical, patrol and strategic aviation, as well as contingents from the armed forces of Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine, there is an examination of the anticipated theatre of operations in case Kiev prepares a power solution in the southeast.

The destroyer "Porter" and staff ship "Mount Whitney" are currently in the port of Batumi, Georgia, while the tanker "John Lenthall" is in the southwest Black Sea.

The Russian Armed Forces conduct continuous surveillance and monitor the situation.
