Russian Defence Minister General of Army Sergei Shoigu checks Russian grouping of troops in Arctic area
Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation General of the Army Sergei Shoigu inspected the Arctic military post of the Northern Fleet.
The head of the Russian military department checked the organisation of official activities and the fulfillment of tasks for the purpose of special units and units stationed in the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, including readiness for actions to protect and defend particularly important objects.
The Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation together with the head of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev flew over the objects of the Central training ground of the Russian Federation.
The Central training ground of the Russian Federation was formed on September 17, 1954. In the period from 1954 to 1990, 132 tests of atmospheric, underground, underwater, surface, as well as ground, explosions of nuclear weapons were carried out on it. Their total power is 94 percent of the power of all nuclear explosions produced in the USSR.
The main tasks of the Central training ground of the Russian Federation at the present stage are the preparation and testing of promising samples of weapons and military equipment.
Sergei Shoigu also inspected the readiness of social infrastructure facilities in Belushya Guba of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago.
The northernmost school in Russia is located in this locality. The educational institution is designed to train more than 250 students in one shift. The school has 2 gyms and a canteen.
Last year, by the decision of Sergei Shoigu, a kindergarten was built and put into operation on Novaya Zemlya.
The preschool educational institution occupies an area of more than 6 thousand sq. m. There is a separate playground for each age group. The kindergarten building has facilities for children's groups, a winter garden, a gym, a swimming pool, a music hall, a photo gallery, a salt cave. Three residential houses for military personnel and their family members are being prepared for delivery. Another house is under construction.
The safety of civil navigation and maritime economic activity of Russia along the Northern Sea Route in the Arctic is ensured by a grouping created on the basis of ships of the Kola Flotilla formations of the heterogeneous forces of the Northern Fleet.
Currently, a detachment of warships of the Northern Fleet consisting of the large anti-submarine ship Vice Admiral Kulakov, the large amphibious ship Alexander Otrakovsky, the rescue tug Altai and the tanker Sergei Osipov has left the main base of the Northern Fleet - the city of Severomorsk - to solve problems in the Arctic zone of the Arctic Ocean.
In addition, during combat training, the consolidated MiG-31 interceptor fighter group of the Northern Fleet aviation performs the tasks of air defence duty, conducting aerial reconnaissance and covering troops and forces operating in the Arctic zone. The crews carry out flights from airfields in the Novaya Zemlya and Franz Josef Land archipelagos and work out issues of interaction with the naval forces of the fleet.
In the Arctic zone of responsibility of the Northern Fleet, specialists of radio engineering troops are on duty around the clock, who monitor the airspace, fighter aircraft crews fly as part of combat duty, and detachments of warships perform numerous tasks in the Arctic latitudes of the Arctic Ocean.
