More than 4 thousand pilgrims visited the monasteries of Amaras and Dadivank with the assistance of the servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Peacekeepers ensure the safety of pilgrims while traveling on armored personnel carriers BTR-82A and visiting the monastery complexes of Amaras and Dadivank.

Both shrines are located near the line of demarcation of the parties, therefore, in order to ensure the safety of pilgrims, the presence of military personnel of the Russian peacekeeping contingent is necessary. Every Sunday, pilgrims from Armenia and remote areas of Nagorno-Karabakh came and come to the church service. In addition, in order to preserve the historical and cultural value of the region, Russian servicemen constantly patrol the adjacent territories of the monastery complexes.

As a result of the agreements reached, the Amaras Monastery was in close proximity to the line of demarcation of the parties in Nagorno-Karabakh. The servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping contingent regularly ensure the safety of pilgrims wishing to visit this shrine.

Amaras is one of the early medieval Christian monasteries and is located on the territory of the Martuni district. In medieval Armenia, it had the status of a well-known religious and cultural center.

Dadivank is one of the oldest Christian monasteries and is located on the territory of the Kelbajar district, which, in accordance with the tripartite declaration, came under the control of Azerbaijan in November 2020. To ensure security, one of the observation posts of the Russian peacekeeping contingent is located near the architectural complex.

In accordance with the agreements specified in the joint statement of the President of the Russian Federation, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, a complete cease-fire and all military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh were declared from 00: 00 Moscow time on November 10, 2020.
