Alexander Dvornikov

Commander of the Southern Military District, Colonel-General



Alexander Dvornikov was born in Ussuriysk on August 22, 1961.

He graduated from the Moscow High Combined-arms Command School in 1982, Military Academy named after Mikhail Frunze in 1991, and Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces in 2005.

After graduating from the High School, he served in the Far Eastern military district on the posts of platoon leader, company commander, and chief of staff of battalion. 

In 1991-1995 – deputy commander, commander of the motorized rifle battalion in the Western force grouping.

In 1995-2000 – chief of staff of regiment, regiment commander in the Moscow military district.

In 2000-2003 – chief of staff of division, division commander in the North-Caucasian military district.

In 2005, after graduating from the Military Academy of the General Staff, he was assigned to the post of the deputy commander of the army, and then he was assigned to the post of the chief of staff of the army in the Siberian military district.

In 2008-2010 – commander of the army in the Far Eastern military district.

In 2012-2015 – he was assigned to the post of chief of staff – first deputy commander of the Central MD troops.

He commanded the Russian force grouping in Syria in 2015-2016.

Alexander Dvornikov is the Hero of the Russian Federation. He has been decorated with orders “For Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR” III grade, “For military merits”, “For merits to the Fatherland” IV grade with swords, Order of Courage, and a lot of medals.
